Payroll Analyst

Our small but growing company is adding to staff!

Payroll Analyst will coordinate and participate in technical payroll accounting activities; participate in the preparation, maintenance, processing, analysis and auditing of manual and automated payroll data, information, records, and reports; and ensure accuracy and completeness of payroll transactions. This is a Full-Time role onsite within our Holliston MA office

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for the analysis of data to identify and resolve discrepancies before, during, and after the processing of payroll.

• Analyzes payroll processing audit reports for accuracy, analyzing discrepancies and identifying appropriate corrective actions to ensure any discrepancy in records are resolved timely and accurately.

• Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders in Payroll, Finance, Talent Acquisition, Operations, and Human Resources to resolve issues.

• Work with management and stakeholders to establish, develop, or optimize procedures due to regulatory change, changes in systems functionality, or implementation of new business requirements.

• Assist with any payroll-related matters including assistance with each pay cycle's check tracking, pay discrepancies, garnishments, benefits, and onboarding issues within the payroll department

• Assist with commission and bonus tracking and payment processing for staff each biweekly and weekly pay period as required

• Assist in overseeing of tickets received in the Payroll Freshdesk inbox and coordinate accordingly to provide administrative support

• Responsible for auditing and maintaining all company tax registrations for operating States, localities, and municipalities and assists with Year-End processing and audits.

• Regularly audits and ensures quarterly tax filings are accurate and reconciled to payroll reports for all entities (including reconciliation of 941's, W-2's/W-3's)

• Maintain knowledge of compliance requirements and applies to the business environment, making recommendations when deficiencies are identified.

• Responsible for timely and accurate reconciling, balancing, auditing, and completion for all assigned payroll records and general ledger discrepancies.

• Researches, analyzes, and resolves tax issues at the employee and company levels as issues arise and lead payroll registrations for new states, as directed.

• Responsible for following defined procedures while continuously analyzing and recommending changes to enhance the identified processes' accuracy and/or efficiency.

• Responsible for working with technical resources to update and maintain payroll to general ledger mapping and facilitates/troubleshoots issues with account balances as required.

• Responsible for working with system technical resources to support time and payroll calculations for changing business and/or regulatory compliance.

• Demonstrates a high level of commitment in supporting the team in every aspect of the work of the department by assisting the team by training new payroll staff members, mentoring junior team members in compliance, payroll procedures, basic knowledge of payroll and timekeeping systems, and other team development activities as assigned.

• Works collaboratively with management and team members to document payroll team processes and is responsible for maintaining documentation on an on-going basis.

• Exhibits a high level of integrity by keeping payroll and financial information strictly confidential.

• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or GED required, Bachelor's degree preferred.

• 3+ years of in-house or outsourced payroll experience

• 2+ years of experience in data analysis, including mining, evaluation, and visualization

• Advanced SQL or Excel skills, with aptitude for learning other analytics tools

• Strong systems/process experience with demonstrated analytical thinking, attention to detail, organization, and problem solving

• Multi company/entity environment experience

• Experience with Workday or similar system strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of payroll principles, multi-state tax laws, employee garnishments, regulations, reporting, and procedures.

• Exhibits working knowledge of calculation of all components of payroll gross to net.

• Knowledge of payroll concepts including pre- and post- tax benefits, deductions, and reporting.

• Knowledge of federal and multi-state payroll laws, and general legal requirements for tax registration, reporting, and special pay requirements

• Experience with payroll full process input-to-regulatory reporting reconciliations.

• Experience with third-party payroll processing systems such as Workday

• Understands banking concepts in the completion of payroll processing.

• Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll taxes.

• Strong attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Maintains the highest levels of confidentiality.

• Ability to use Microsoft Office products (w/ above average proficiency in Microsoft Excel).

• Strong technology skills and ability to work in a primarily digital environment.

• Adept at embracing technological changes in the workspace.

• Capable of handling multiple tasks with varying priorities, processing high-volume transactional changes, staying focused, and working effectively

• Other tasks as assigned.
