Director of Institutional Marketing
Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid)
Our client, a highly respected investment management firm, is seeking an experienced Director of Institutional Marketing to lead strategic marketing initiatives supporting institutional sales, client engagement, and business growth. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on strategic marketing leader who has successfully developed and executed comprehensive marketing strategies from concept through execution and measurement.
Position Overview
We are looking for a marketing professional who can own the entire marketing lifecycle—from developing the annual marketing strategy and identifying growth opportunities to executing integrated campaigns, measuring results, and continuously refining the approach. This individual will serve as a true strategic business partner to Sales and senior leadership, translating business priorities into marketing initiatives that drive brand awareness, client engagement, and business growth.
This is not simply an execution role. We're seeking someone who understands strategic marketing "from soup to nuts"—someone who can build the strategy, gain stakeholder buy-in, quarterback cross-functional initiatives, oversee execution, analyze results, and make recommendations that directly impact the business.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies aligned with business goals and growth initiatives.
- Translate sales and business priorities into integrated marketing plans with measurable objectives and outcomes.
- Partner closely with Sales, Product, Client Service, and senior leadership to identify commercial opportunities and develop marketing solutions.
- Lead integrated, multi-channel marketing campaigns across digital, content, events, webinars, email, social media, sponsorships, and thought leadership.
- Own marketing initiatives from initial concept and planning through execution, measurement, optimization, and post-campaign analysis.
- Plan and execute executive events, client conferences, roundtables, and strategic marketing programs that strengthen client relationships and support business development.
- Develop compelling marketing content, presentations, sales materials, and thought leadership while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Analyze campaign performance, marketing metrics, ROI, and client engagement data to provide strategic recommendations and improve future marketing efforts.
- Manage marketing budgets, agency relationships, sponsorships, and external vendors.
- Collaborate across Marketing, Sales, Product, Research, and Client Service teams to deliver a consistent and exceptional client experience.
- Mentor and develop junior marketing professionals while fostering collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive marketing experience, preferably within investment management, asset management, wealth management, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.
- Demonstrated success building and executing end-to-end strategic marketing programs from planning through execution and performance analysis.
- Proven ability to develop annual marketing strategies that support business growth and sales initiatives.
- Experience serving as a strategic advisor and business partner to senior leadership and sales teams.
- Strong background in institutional marketing, client engagement, integrated campaigns, and event strategy.
- Experience leading complex cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple high-impact initiatives simultaneously.
- Strong analytical mindset with experience leveraging marketing metrics, KPIs, and ROI to drive continuous improvement.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including content development and executive presentations.
- Experience managing budgets, agencies, sponsorships, and vendor relationships.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or relevant marketing certifications are a plus.
Preferred Experience
- Institutional asset management or investment management marketing.
- Financial advisor, intermediary, or institutional distribution marketing.
- Digital marketing, content strategy, and marketing analytics.
- Thought leadership and brand-building initiatives.
- Marketing compliance within a regulated financial services environment.
The Ideal Candidate
We're looking for someone who:
- Thinks strategically before executing tactically.
- Can own marketing from strategy through execution rather than simply managing projects.
- Is comfortable acting as the quarterback across multiple teams and stakeholders.
- Has the confidence to make recommendations, influence senior leaders, and challenge ideas when appropriate.
- Understands how marketing directly supports sales, client engagement, and long-term business growth.
- Takes ownership, drives initiatives forward independently, and consistently delivers polished, high-quality work.
Why Join?
- Opportunity to shape strategic marketing initiatives for a growing, respected organization.
- Collaborative, high-performing team environment.
- Broad exposure to executive leadership and key business stakeholders.
- Hybrid work environment with competitive compensation and excellent benefits.
- Opportunity to make a meaningful impact on business growth, brand visibility, and client engagement.
If you're a strategic marketing leader who enjoys building marketing programs from the ground up, partnering with executive leadership, and driving measurable business results, we'd love to hear from you.
